Hardwood Flooring – A classic choice
While many home décor trends seem to come and go from season to season, solid hardwood flooring is a timeless choice that is always in style. Whether you enjoy the classic and rustic look of vintage and distressed hardwood, or prefer the modern and trendy look that slim satin or shiny finished planks achieve, there is literally a hardwood to suit any design and décor preference.
Below we take a look at various hardwood styles and shades, as well as what hardwood works best in different spaces.
Solid Hardwood Flooring
Dark hardwood
Dark hardwood is by far the most popular choice among the masses right now due to its ability to work in both modern and classic décor surroundings. Dark hardwoods works well in white or light toned surroundings, as they are able to highlight things such as white cupboards and crown moulding beautifully.
The downside of dark toned hardwoods is that they tend to show blemishes quite easily so the hardwood needs to be cleaned regularly as well as spot cleaned in between washes to keep them looking clean and well-maintained.
Light hardwood
Light hardwood works very well in small or dark spaces as it is able to both open and brighten the space it has been laid in. However it works just as well in large bright spaces, and is a great option for kitchens and bathrooms.
If you really want to add a trendy spin to your space, white wash hardwood has been all the rage recently, so if you want to give your home a beach house kind of look or if you just like to keep your home on par with the latest trends then white wash is an excellent choice.
White wash floors are definitely a pricier hardwood option, but the look they achieve makes them well worth the extra cost!
Satin finished solid hardwood flooring
It should be of little surprise that satin finished hardwood is the most popular finish out there. Not only does satin finished look fabulous it is able to maintain its “like new” look for a long time. The satin finishes low lustre is also able to hide minor blemishes such as small scratches and footprints very well, so is perfect in areas of the home where there is heavy footfall.
Shiny finished hardwood
Shiny finishes on hardwood will give your floor a dazzling sheen that can transform even the most dismal space into a high-end showroom instantly. The most common grievance people have with shiny finishes is that they can be a bit of a pain to keep clean, especially in heavily trafficked areas.
When it comes to areas such as kitchens and bathrooms, choosing a shiny finished hardwood may not be the best option in terms of choosing a low maintenance floor, such as dark hardwood or satin finished hardwood.
One of the best things about solid hardwood flooring is how versatile it is. In fact, it’s nearly impossible to choose a hardwood that won’t improve the look of your home regardless of layout or décor, so why not consider hardwood for your next flooring choice and lay a low maintenance floor that enhances your home.
